Billed as the area's largest and most costly waterfront project at the time, Venetian Isles saw its submerged land rights signed over to the Venetian Isles Development Corporation by Florida Governor Leroy Collins in 1959. Though initial construction challenges delayed homebuilding until 1968, the community flourished under the stewardship of Sibley Homes in the 1970s.
